Online Critique

You took pictures of your artwork during class on Thursday, now you need to post them on your personal blog and write about what your concentration is and where you were going with your current work.  Once you have your images posted you will need to critique TWO of your classmates work.

Here's how you will do this...

Go to a classmates blog.  If they already have a comment on their work, go to someone elses blog and comment on that work.  But only if that person doesn't have any comments.  So, the sooner you get on this the better.  Only after each person has at least one comment per post can there be additional comments.

I feel like I'm not being clear, which is entirely possible.  So, I'll try it again.

  1. I post my art on my own blog with a little explaination of what my concentration is, and where I was going with my current pieces.
  2. I then hypothetically, go to Lizzie's page, her work is posted, but she already has a comment.
  3. So, I go to Stacey's page, she has a comment as well...
  4. I go to Ranya's page and she does not have a comment yet, hooray.  I leave a comment.
  5. Go through the whole process again to find another person who doesn't have a comment yet for your second comment.  You might have to go through the whole class or you might get lucky.
  6. Write something meaningful, thoughtful and helpful.  Don't just write, this is awesome!
Only after each person has one comment can we start doubling up.  In other words spread the wealth!  We need feedback from our classmates.

Seniors

We've got three weeks to get it all together. Well at least to have the conversation about getting it all together. We need to get your photography portfolios, and your art portfolios thought through. Eight pieces for each of them. Scholastic deadline is January 16th.

December third is the deadline for the George Fox High School show. We need to photograph your concentration work and your new concentration work ASAP. What do you want to enter into this show? No photography. Digital art is okay. Two pieces per student, no fee.

Oregon College of Art and Craft, Lake Oswego Reads and vans Custom Culture coming up soon.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday. See you soon.

Being Thankful

It is that time of year, when we reflect on what we are thankful for, or at least we should.  We all get caught up in dealines, and timelines. Why not makes some time for reflection? What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful that I get to teach in such an amazing school with students who are talented and care about learning. I'm thankful for family and hedgehogs and encaustic paint. I'm thankful for the color chartreuse, reality television shows, volunteering and Odwalla Original Super Protein Shakes.

Okay, here is what you need to do for your Blog assignment this week.  The AP posters will be picked up tomorrow, Thursday.
  1. You need to get your poster, each of you gets two, three if you need them, we only ordered 100.
  2. You need to deliver your poster to the business, person, family member that you sold the ad to.
  3. You need to take a picture of you and this person/business/family member and post it on your personal blog.
Have fun with this.  These people/family members/businesses paid money to be on this poster.  They want to be thanked and see the end product!  Looking forward to seeing the results.  Candy and a special prize for the most creative, fun, interesting photo.

Challenging Yourself

No shave November or No school November?  This month is going to cruise by, so you should always come to class prepared to take advantage of every second.  Seniors, I need to touch base with you this week about creating or putting together portfolios for the Scholastic Art Awards.  The deadline is January 16th but I want to make sure each of you has an idea and a direction.

For all of you this is the time to challenge yourself.  If you aren't spending at least 3 - 4 hours a week working on your concentration, outside of class time, ask yourself......am I playing it safe or am I challenging myself?

Check out this site, it's amazing.  http://www.thisiscolossal.com/category/art/ There are several tabs at the top that take you to various types of art.  These people are definitely challenging themselves. The images below are embroidered portraits.  The first is the front, the second is what the back looks like.  I like the back better!  What do you think?  Find some art, design or photography on Colossal and tell me what you think of the persons work.
