So what is a concentration? AP defines a concentration as, "A body of work unified by an underlying idea that has visual coherence." This weekend you will explore the Internet and find a few 'concentrations.' You will need to follow the directions on the handout and submit it to your personal art blog. Here is an example of what I am after:
Amedeo Modigliani - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amedeo_Modigliani
Modigliani was a figure painter that elongated the form. Clearly the majority of his work is of the human form with a focus on his muse, Jeanne Hebuterne. I have always been very taken with their story.
Jeanne met Modigliani when she was eighteen years old and she soon
became his lover and muse. He painted her red hair, sinuous body and
long neck many times.
She became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. The couple were quite fond of one another and Jeanne put up with Amedeo's hedonistic
lifestyle, caring for him and supporting him.
When she was nearly full term with their second child when Modigliani died.
Jeanne was completely heart broken and committed suicide by walking
backwards out of a top floor window. Jeanne was only twenty-one years
old. So sad!
The color palette that Modigliani uses in his work is muted. The element of color does not get in the way of the work and allows the viewer to focus on the form. Emphasis seems to be important in his work as most of the forms are centrally located.

ReplyDeletedone! and all my pictures are in a row :) woooo hooo
ReplyDeleteFigured out how to get the photos to wrap around the text, I think! Just copy and paste the photo directly onto the document on blogspot and change the size as necessary. It's a bit clunky when moving around, but I got them all to fit!
ReplyDeleteI got all mine done, but i couldnt find as much of story about my artists as you did on Amedeo :[
ReplyDeleteI hope we didn't HAVE to include backstory for the artists, because I did not. By the way, I looked up Modigliani's sculptures, and I absolutely love them. Some of my favorite human form sculptures that I've seen.
